Meet Vijan Ghedia, Trainee
Why Gowling WLG? For me, the first big decision was to pursue a career in law. Having read History at university, I realised the skills I had developed during my degree could be useful in a legal environment.
After completing the GDL I turned my attention towards finding a training contract. Having grown up in the Birmingham area, I'd always known about the firm as it has an excellent reputation, not just locally but also further afield. Most importantly though, I wanted somewhere that I would get exposure to top quality work. My first seat was in Corporate and I've just started my new seat in Banking. I enjoyed Corporate and the commercial nature of the work and how it draws together law and business. Banking also shares some of those features so I'm looking forward to learning more over the next few months.
I've found that because the firm doesn't take on a large number of trainees, you're not just seen as additional resource; you get real responsibility and opportunities to get involved in good quality work. You are trusted to have a go at things and then able to sit down with whoever is supervising your work to go through things.
One of the things which makes the firm stand out is that there is no 'typical' kind of person who works here. This means that everyone has a different perspective and a different way of doing things, which means you meet a range of different people, but most importantly you get a balanced, well-rounded training contract. For anyone who is thinking of applying, I'd encourage them to really understand what sets the firm apart from others and the firm's aspirations for the future.
